Janet M. Hansen grew up in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Ms. Hansen studied at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg. Virginia, where she received a firm grounding in classic art techniques, graduation in 1979.
Ms. Hansen pursued her love of watercolor and started combining it with pen and ink. The black lines of the ink give hr paintings structure while enhancing give free flowing shapes of her brush strokes. Textured paper and other modern materials, such as illuminating spheres, are also used when the work warrants it.
Ms. Hansen received national recognition for her paintings in the first and second annual Arts for the Parks Competition in 1987 and 1988; also in Art Wyoming 1990 and 1992. She also received a First Place in Aquarelle 1999 at the Blue Ridge Arts Council in Front Royal, Virginia. In September of 2004, she accepted an Equal Merit Award at the Washington Water Color Association’s Member’s Show.
